Marilyn Manson Pillows at Design District

Marilyn Manson, a shock rock icon who has been a constant source of controversy and chaos for many years, is now a painter. Marilyn Manson is putting his gothic side into the art scene with an eye-opening exhibit at Design District 101 Exhibit.

The grim artist creates large-scale and medium-sized watercolor paintings. He riffs upon celebrity, mutilation., dementia, and murder. His abrasive and hard-hitting paintings range in style from a threeheaded Jesus Christ, bleeding on an antique embalmer’s board to a JonBenet Ramsey portrait depicting Sleeping Beauty. The girl is portrayed as a happy princess instead of being the victim of cold blooded murder.

While some of the artworks aren't perfect, there are still many quality ones in this show. One of the works, appropriately named Masquerade, shows a man wearing a gas-mask that could be used as a metaphor to show how spectators might react in response to Manson’s artistic endeavors.

Eine andere, Die Deutsche Kampferin (Naked Hitler) depicts a man wearing a mercurochrome-smear and a limp tallywhacker. It adds to Hitler's fear of his ghastly gob. To lessen the danger, the smear features a patch made of purple and yellow irises.

Manson painted Elizabeth Short, a scene from Elizabeth Short's final days, on a nearby Wall. The scene shows her face being slashed from the corners up to her ears. Her raven tresses support her features like a pillow and contrast with the horrors etched into her flesh.

In  marilyn manson  hoodies  painted paintings that penetrate the skin, he pays homage also to the dead. Elizabeth Short's portrayal of Snow White in A Smile II shows the bloodied lips and a closeup view of the victim. Her raven-haired hair gives the scene a romantic look, but the picture's dark hues make it more real.

Manson's other work, aside from the extravagant portraits, is well worth a look. His grimy, absinthe drinking crone, When You Get Old, is rendered in moss greens as well as sickly purples. His back is bent like it's protecting him from the apparitions. The megacephalic tyke that is right next to Ready or Not Tot, gets a terrifying night shellacking. He has droopy pupils and putsrefying flesh. Short's brutal act, of butchering her flesh, is also depicted in eerie detail.
